If you regularly post to a blog then sooner or later you will need to ditch your service providers lame user interface and get something that can keep up with your rabid posting. I’ve been using w.bloggar and blogjet for the past couple of weeks and the following is my thoughts on the two tools.

W.Bloggar

W.Bloggar is a free blogging tool that is available for windows and supports most blogging platforms. (The website apparently has been hacked recently and is running at a bare minimum) The interface uses a basic text editor that you type your post in. It has the usual editing functions like changing the font, adding bullets and so forth.

The editor is a little strange by the fact that it automatically takes care of some of the HTML code for you but other things like links show up as HTML code in your editor window.

There are a lot of options with this tool such as adding special HTML code and formatting your text. You can retrieve past posts and edit them as well as edit your template (I could with Blogger anyways) in the editor.

The thing I like least about this tool is the image insert function. It is very difficult to set it up so it inserts your image properly and shows it in your preview screen. There is a neat feature that allows you to show what you are listening to for music when you make a post. All of the other general editing functions are there as well.

BlogJet

BlogJet is a commercial blogging tool ($39.95) for Windows much like w.bloggar that uses a standard editor window as its interface.

BlogJet has a slightly cleaner look for its interface but offers the same features as w.bloggar. One major difference is how the editor window works. You have a normal mode where you don’t see the HTML and a code mode where you do see the HTML. This is very simple and easy to understand.

Where BlogJet really shines is its ability to import images in your post. It has a nifty little resize button so you can automatically select the size you want your image to be in your post. It has some other nice features such as a statistics button that tells you how many words/lines/etc you have in your post.

Summary

W.Bloggar and BlogJet both offer roughly the same features for a blogging editor. But BlogJet has a much cleaner interface and its image insert capability is killer. Although W.Bloggar is free, I am going to pony up the dough and go with BlogJet. (This post was created using BlogJet)
